Daniel Spoerri

Daniel Spoerri is a Swiss visual artist, dancer and director of Romanian origin. He is one of the most important representatives of object art, co-founder of the artist group Nouveau Réalisme and is considered the inventor of Eat Art. Other representatives of Eat Art – in collaboration with Spoerri – were André Thomkins and Dieter Roth (including art objects made to order as cakes from the bakery). Roth produced around 50 “literary sausages” from 1961 onwards, for which he shredded book and magazine pages, mixed them with gelatine, fat and spices and filled them into sausage casings. In this way, he “sausaged” Günter Grass’ The Tin Drum and Hegel’s Collected Works, among others[1].
